Despite what you may be reading out there, writing high quality content is not a new tactic, and it is not some buzzword to be thrown around lightly.
As everyone probably know by now the key to success online is in creating engaging quality content. However, if you really look in depth at it, quality has always been at the core of what Google and other major search engines wanted, the issue is that marketers always chose to ignore it.
While no one really know the exact number, it’s estimated that there are over 200 factors that Google alone uses when determining where to rank a website. With that being said, you can’t honestly think that quality wasn’t at the top of the list. In reality, when you look at the factors that we do know, you will see that quality content is actually all that the major search engines have ever really cared about. I’ll explain.
Take a quick look at some of the factors we’ve always known, titles, amount of keywords used on site, descriptions, duplicate content, amount of focused content on page etc. These are just a few items the search engine optimisation companies focus on every day, and none of them are new things that we’ve just started worrying about.
Now when you combine this with the recent algorithm changes that Google has made, what you find is that the only real change that has happened is that Google has gotten better at finding and organising quality content. There hasn’t been some new momentum swing; relevant, focused creative writing has been, and will always be the key to success online.
So if you really want to make it online, forget all of the shiny new objects that keep popping up, and stick to the basics. You can’t fail.
